Vice Chancellor/Associate Chancellor: Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services

Unit Responsible for Policy: UIC Human Resources

Effective Date: February 9, 2017

Contact: Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources

Policy Statement:  All new Academic Professional hires to the University require Board of Trustees (Board) approval. Academic Administrative Professional appointments, such as directors or executive directors, reporting to a dean or higher level position, will require prior Board approval. Other Academic Professional appointments that do not require formal approval are included in the secretary’s report for Board approval (approval is not required prior to the effective date of the appointment). The UIC HR Service Center will assemble the necessary documents for the biosketch (for the appropriate appointments) based upon the curriculum vitae, offer letter draft, and the Chancellor’s Briefing Document submitted by the respective department for submission to the Board. All other new hires are included in the secretary's report for Board approval.

Reason for Policy: To provide the Office of the Board of Trustees with information on new and existing Academic Professional hires that require direct Board of Trustees approval.

Minority Impact Statement:  The policy does not have a disproportionate or unique effect on UIC’s minority students, faculty, or staff.

Who Should Read the Policy:  All UIC hiring officials, unit heads, and Academic Professional employees.

Definitions:
