Employee Performance Program
Policy Number: HR-602
Policy Title: Employee Performance Program
Vice Chancellor/Associate Chancellor: Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services
Unit Responsible for Policy: UIC Human Resources
Effective Date: October 10, 2016
Contact: Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources
Policy Statement: Managers are expected to conduct employee performance reviews on an annual basis. The annual performance review provides structure and consistency for reviewing and monitoring workplace performance. The process starts with confirmation of employees’ annual goals and job performance expectations. Approximately one year later, the process concludes with an annual performance review. Annual reviews include feedback from supervisors related to employees’ ongoing development and performance conversations held throughout the year. Supervisors are encouraged to focus on ongoing dialogue and regular feedback as opposed to a single, year-end review.
Reason for Policy: To provide a structured approach for monitoring and reviewing employee performance in the work environment at UIC.
Minority Impact Statement: The policy does not have a disproportionate or unique effect on UIC’s minority students, faculty, or staff.
Who Should Read the Policy: All UIC employees, except those specifically excluded in writing by University rules or policies, or by requirements of accrediting bodies. This exclusion also applies to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization’s accreditation processes for UI Health.
