Policy Statement: All faculty members, staff, investigators, personnel, students, trainees, fellows, visitors, and volunteers who participate or intend to participate in sponsored research and sponsored scholarly activities at or for University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) are required to undergo training in research security and research integrity appropriate for their role. Training shall be completed prior to applying for, receiving or participating in sponsored research or scholarly activities at or for UIC. The required training(s) and mode of training may vary depending on the type(s) of research and/or scholarly activities being conducted and in response to any applicable federal regulations. Reason for Policy: UIC is committed to conducting world-class research. All those conducting research and scholarly activities at or for UIC and who report research results and scholarly products are expected to do so with integrity, respect, fairness, and transparency at all organizational levels. More broadly, UIC is committed to international engagement in education, scholarship and research, the pursuit of federally sponsored funding to support these activities, and compliance with all federal laws and regulations regarding such activities. Finally, all institutions awarded or seeking federal funding are required to implement a research security program and provide training in research security and research integrity to those proposing and participating in federally sponsored projects.1

Minority Impact Statement: The Policy does not have any disproportionate or unique impact on UIC’s minority students, staff, or faculty.

Who Should Read the Policy: All UIC faculty members, staff, investigators, personnel, students, trainees, fellows, visitors, and volunteers who participate or intend to participate in sponsored research and scholarly activities at or for UIC.
